Kenya today is at a state of anxiety, and the uncertainity mounts with every splitting second just as much as depression sets in to the losing faction’s people. that is true, i can say, because as a loser, am feeling very sick today, albeit it is still “provisional results” somehow as Raila’s supporters we thought that Raila would pull an “obama” win over Uhuru Kenyatta “Romney”.
Since Monday evening, Raila had been trailing the #digital team in the tallies and we all were either very worried and excited and as for some of us, our TVs were muted for a whole day which is infact an “abnormality” for a “stay-at-home” working nation. But it so happens that the trusted #iebc, found an abnormality in its systems which a first of its kind in Kenya, had it seems that a #digital shenanighan had it hacked to impose a permanent lead over #analog team.
OMG, hell has no fury like an analog system over a digital one, the online ranting was remarkable and for some us the living room became alive with News in and Facebook turned a playground, or the violence hotspots. Woe unto the International media, whose fraternity seemed to be lounging around the country for lack of news and have since visited the Maasai Mara, in “primitive” Kenya, because as it stands, although tension may reign in the atmosphere, no one is talking politics in the car or in the kiosk or at the bar, because in most cases the warring divides live close to each other and everyone is scared to spill the grains to the wrong fowls. the race is only openly discussed on facebook where real insulting happens behing the screens but in other areas outside the social media, it is discussed in muted tones and even the rejoicing is done beyond closed gates.
And somehow, everyone is very “hawk- eyed” for every eventuality, you can see someone hiss a sigh of relief when they get in their gates and the locks done and say a prayer when the nation decides to “get off their butts” and go to work.
this race is tight
